Twin Bays Vineyard and Winery was established
in 1989 with planting's of Cabernet, Shiraz and Riesling. The first commercial vintage was produced in 1995, which was then followed by the opening of the Cellar Door facility in 1996.

Our first showing was in 1996 with a 1995 Shiraz (our second vintage) and that wine was awarded a medal at the Royal Hobart Wine Show. A number of our wines have achieved success in wine shows in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2002. In the year 2000 the 1999 vintage of the Cabernet, Shiraz and Grenache were all awarded medals - the 1999 Cabernet a silver medal at the prestigious Adelaide wine show.

The Vineyard and Winery was the first commercial venture in the Yankalilla district and remains the only licensed wine producing facility in that area. In the year 2000 Twin Bays was rewarded for its pioneering efforts and its insistence on quality by a citation at the Fleurieu Tourism 2000 awards ceremony. The Vineyard and winery featured on the front cover of the Grape Grower and Wine maker Journal in March 1996 and December 2000. Our wines have received notices in various Australian newspapers and magazines around the country.

The spectacular coastal views and maritime environment in which the vineyard and winery is set, provides the inspiration for growing quality fruit and producing stylish wines.

The Vineyard is sited on a ridge overlooking the township of Normanville and is enveloped by the surrounding hills with splendid views of the coastline.

The soils are loamy with a clay and limestone base. Located close to the ocean the area is frost-free and the summer heat is mediated by the cooling evening sea breezes. The high rainfall, cool climate and deep soils have proved perfect for the vine giving a long growing season for building and conserving rich and complex varietal flavours of grapes.

The regional influences on the fruit are apparent in our wines.

Hand picked grapes from selected vineyards in the Fleurieu Peninsula compliment those from our vineyard and allows us to expand the range and develop interesting and novel styles of wine.
