THE CELLAR DOOR SALES AREA, WHICH WAS OPENED IN 1995, IS A DELIGHTFUL BLEND OF OLD AND NEW, WHICH WITH ITS LARGE PICTURE WINDOWS IS A PLEASANT ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH TO SAMPLE WINES AND ENJOY THE OCEAN VIEWS ACROSS THE VINEYARD.

IN WINTER THE CELLAR DOOR IS WARMED BY AN OPEN FIRE AND BY THE SUNLIGHT STREAMING THROUGH THE WINDOWS. THIS AREA LEADS TO A BALCONY AND GAZEBO, WHICH IN SUMMERTIME IS AN IDEAL SPOT TO RELAX AND SOAK UP THE ATMOSPHERE WHILE LINGERING OVER ONE OF THE ESTATE'S FINE WINES.

 


 

Twin Bays is geared to producing wines from small batches of fruit. The processes are consequently labour intensive. All of our fruit is hand picked and of the best quality. The grapes are handled with great care and all of our fruit is basket pressed.Virtually all of our wines are produced and bottled on site. Some processes are contracted out for reasons of economy.

Keen on experimentation and desirous of making the most of the available fruit we have been able to produce some fairly distinctive, interesting and unique wines. Outrageous, a late picked, sparking Pinot Noir, Trident Liquor Tawny (100% Cabernet), Liquor Riesling, (white port), Yankalilla Sparking Cabernet (100% premium Cabernet), Wild Grenache (100% dry grown Grenache), and from local fruit Pinot Gris the first and only one from the Southern Fleurieu.

The wines range from being medium to full bodied, flavoursome and distinctive in style. Moderate oaking prevents over powering of the fruit flavours. A blend of American and French Oak are used. The wines are easy to drink young and develop quite nicely in the bottles over four to five years, with some of the heavier ones up to ten years.

2003 RIESLING - RESERVE BIN
exceptional vintage. long ripening - low yield. intense citrus aromas and flavours. dry, crisp finish. a signature wine.

2001 RIESLING
uniquely styled, showing intense citrus aromas and mouth filling flavours. this wine is crisp and moderately dry with a strong acid finish. now aging very well.

1996 AGED RIESLING
golden straw coloured. soft buttery, mouth filling and nutty flavour. exceptional example of fine aged riesling.

2003 PINOT GRIS
aromas of tropical green melons. mouth filling flavours. moderate crispness and acid finish.

2004 CHARDONNAY
intensely floral. aromas of mango and passionfruit with lingering mouth filling flavours. varietal character fully expressed free of oak. excellent anytime. well suited to light delicately flavoured dishes. best now. will age.

FRUITY SEMILLON
aromas of butterscotch, smooth creamy and muscat like. sweet yet matured varietal character. will compliment most desert and fruit dishes. long cellar life.

2002 ROSADO
light, dry fruity red. 70/30 grenache shiraz blend. fermented off skins in oak. serve chilled or over ice. ideal summer wine.

2002 WILD GRENACHE
produced from the fully ripened fruit. it is medium bodied, fruity and spicy and well balanced to acids, tannin and oak.

2003 SHIRAZ
deep purple hues. richly flavoured with a moderate spicy finish on the palate. lifted aromas of stewed fruit. will age well.

typical style - great colour, fine aromas with peppery flavour and soft oak characters. will age well.

2003 ELLIOT SHIRAZ
organic grown, late picked and preservative free. big wine at 14.7% alcohol. deep rich colour. excellent aromas, peppery with a hint of berrys and oak flavour and a slight sweetness on the finish.

2000 CABERNET-SHIRAZ
a fine equal blend of two fruits. the wine shows the typical earthy chocolate and berry features of cabernet with peppery overtones from the shiraz.

1999 CABERNET SAUVIGNON

superbly styled. maritime wine. medium bodied fully flaboured. rich fruity aromas with soft caseous chocolate and mint flavours. earthy. soft oak and gentle tannin flavours. drink now. cellar 5-7 years.

2002 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
lovely, rich fruity nose. typical mint chocolate and black currant. some earthy and dusty oak characters. mouth filling with a slight sweet finish. drink now. cellar 5 years.

2001 YANKALILLA SPARKLING CABERNET
produced from our medal winning vintage. has all the typical features of a heavy bodied, full flavoured cabernet. barrel & bottle aged. complex with a subtle hint of sweetness.

2002 OUTRAGEOUS - SPARKLING LATE PICKED PINOT NOIR
lucious jammy wine. produced from very ripe fuit (17bo). barrel fermentation ceased at 12% alcohol leaving some residual sugar. the wine was stabilised and carbonated. the purist might consider this an outrage against the pinot. we love it.

PENINSULA PORT
beginning in 1995, successive vintages from the fleurieu peninsula have been selected, for back blending and progressive maturation to produce a softer rounder style of port.

YANKALILLA TAWNY
this very dark plum coloured, fruity port dominated by oak and tannin is produced on the estate from fully ripened shiraz and cabernet grapes, employing unusal methods exclusive to twin bays.

TRIDENT LIQUEUR TAWNY (Cabernet Port)
this heavy intensely varietal liqueur port has been produced from estate grown cabernet sauvignon. the grape variety and level of sweetness has been chosen to make this port unusual and interesting. will keep indefinitely.

LIQUEUR RIESLING (White Port)
this unusual white port is produced from estate grown riesling grapes. matured in oak. features crisp, clean, subtle fruit flavours. ideal after dinner or as an aperitif. try it chilled.

LIQUEUR MUSCAT
beginning in 1995 successive vintages from the fleurieu peninsula have been selected, for back blending and progressive maturation to produce this honey gold, fruity muscat.
